So 1 is something like Smith’s Alligator Lizard (I presume Smith was human, and this Mammalian!)
There was never a rule against this. If you pick a specific species that is extinct, it should either be recently extinct (like the gecko I did in the first post), or very well-known (like megalania)I don't think there was ever a rule against it? (Or apologies if there was!) I think going for a single extinct species would be particularly challenging (compared to a broader extinct taxon).
The mammal is not human, but the name of the mammal does appear at the start of a multi-word common name.
