Had a lovely day at Howletts the other day. My first visit and thoroughly enjoyed it.
A few notes/questions:
- They’re really promoting the elephant rewinding now. It appears all the elephants are in crate training including, apparently, Coco the bull. There was a keeper trying to coax him inside apparently for this when I was there.
- Boris Johnson was at the park feeding the elephants with his son alongside Aspinall. Then saw his security team and him leaving in a convoy of blacked out range rovers from the manor. Suspect his wife was probably over there having a meeting.
- What’s the status of the wolves at the park? They state they house both European Grey wolves and Iberian wolves. Where exactly are each of these held? There were wolves, signposted as European grey wolves, at the top right corner of the park after walking through the woodland bit with all the primates. But where it states they hold Iberian wolves on their map, there were African wild dogs. So are the Iberian Wolves no longer there? Or are the Iberian Wolves the same as the European Grey Wolves and just not labelled to subspecies status? Are the two subspecies housed together?
- It seems it’s not noted here but there was a rather young De Brazza monkey clinging to its mother still. It did also climb off her so not too young but likely a recent birth.
Lastly, does the park still hold margay? I didn’t see any sign of one but the website lists them as being held.
