great videos, amazing how the keepers went in with the animals. the huge group of wild boar running through the woodland is amazing. thanks bwana for adding this post.
An interesting way how to solve bull surplus problems. (Are there no european or american zoos in need of future breeding bulls?)
Good news - The UK now has a potential breeding pair of Ratel once again. A female has recently arrived from Germany (Koln? Given the recent SSP import) to partner with resident male, Tyson![]()

I was advised on my visit earlier this year that it was planned to add black & crowned lemur to the two species already in the walkthrough, nothing else was mentioned but plans obviously can change.I didnt see the honey badger when I went last year which was a shame, but I saw one on youtube later that night so all was not lost.
Im interested in the plans for the lemur walk through. On the website it says 'the black lemur will be one of a variety of lemur species to live in our walk-through lemur enclosure'. Between the two sites there are 2 subspecies of b&w ruffed lemur, crowned, black, lesser bamboo or greater bamboo lemur and sifaka, and they did have ring tailed at one point but they're not listed now. Will all the different species of lemur eventually be housed together in the walk-thru?

Kifaru Bwana said "Extremely happy for him. He sure was in need of some company", which I took to mean in terms of breeding potential. Ageruff said "I agree, I might take a look at the enclosure next time. It used to avoid it as did not like seeing Tyson wondering round alone" which was the more anthropomorphic statement I think.Tim Brown said:Whereas a pair of Ratels is obviously the thing to do i was surprised at Kirafu making the anthropomorphic statement that a male Ratel would be lonely on his own..although Ratels arent particularly solitary in the wild its the kind of nonsense that regular zoo visitors come up with i.e.Alaska Sealife Centre this summer,a woman off a cruise liner stating that a crab was lonely on its own!As for the Ratel coming from Cologne..isnt that the kind of urban zoo that Damian Aspinall hates? Re. his quote in the Sunday Times "rows of animals in wretched cages"[28.10.12].
