No Allen's? or Ruby-throated?
National might have Ruby-throats off-display. they had right before the aviary closure. No Ruby-throats surprised me too. Would have thought somebody had a few.
Allen's isn't common enough I expect.
Omaha had Black-chinned and Giant. I assume no longer? the Dallas Aquarium new website says " Some of the more visible hummingbirds at the DWA are: Sparkling violetear (Colibri coruscans), Green mango (Anthracocothorax viridis), Green-throated Carib (Eulampis holosericeus), Puerto Rican emerald (Chlorostilbon maugaeus) and the Giant hummingbird (Patagona gigas)". What are the others?
It says the "more visible" hummingbirds are. So what are/were the others and how do we know those species are not off-display?I only saw Broad-Billed at Omaha. As far as DWA goes, afaik they don't actually have all of those species anymore.

I know, I was really hoping for potoos, as well.Too bad there aren't any potoos around, but they would make pretty poor exhibit animals I would guess! At least to the general public anyway.
I wouldn't have thought that would be allowed under American wildlife laws?Something interesting I recently heard - apparently The Living Desert has a temporary exhibition of wild-caught hummingbirds right now. When the exhibition ends, the birds will be released. I don't know much more about it but I heard they have Allen's.
I'm as surprised as you are.I wouldn't have thought that would be allowed under American wildlife laws?
Off-topic, but I think the photos of their Island and Swift Foxes on Living Desert's website are the same animal.
