I can't tell how Zoochat feels about the AZA.

If someone claims to be pro zoo and persistently talks about things which harm conservation or animal welfare, I wonder what sort of 'zoo' they actually like. As mentioned by other posters, no zoos are perfect and in my view dogmatic views are actually just tedious and childish. This thread had run it's course for me, enjoy the view under the bridge.

Well, yes, there are some questionable zoos that have AZA accreditation.
Personally, I thought Honolulu Zoo was a little dated for me. The native bird collections are certainly unique and worthwhile seeing.

I don’t think it is impossible to import those iguanas to the USA (impossible currently due to shutdown), but it would just need the right facility with the right paperwork. I have still heard alleged reports of private trade/private zoo people importing CITES I species these days (though no Brachylophus)
Quite recently, San Diego Zoo completed paperwork on Fiji iguanas Brachylophus confiscated in Europe (Espagna). The court case and ensueing legal ramblings took a good time before finally the CITES export/import work could be arranged. I was one of the Zoochat forumsters questioning why an export to USA was necessary given that the species under confiscation was also found in Europe in private hands ....
