Oklahoma City Zoo "I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas..."

wow! how about that, some things you write/ believe in do come true.
I personally have always wanted an elephant though I know logically that it would be impossible to take care of at the moment.

Nah, sing the twelve days of christmas that'd way you get 12 different species and several of each kind. I would fell sorry for the true love though... ;)

Here are the lyrics of the song:

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
Don't want a doll, no dinky Tinker Toy
I want a hippopotamus to play with and enjoy

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
I don't think Santa Claus will mind, do you?
He won't have to use our dirty chimney flue
Just bring him through the front door,
that's the easy thing to do

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles, no rhinoceroses
I only like hippopotamuses
And hippopotamuses like me too

Mom says the hippo would eat me up, but then
Teacher says a hippo is a vegeterian

There's lots of room for him in our two-car garage
I'd feed him there and wash him there and give him his massage

I can see me now on Christmas morning,
creeping down the stairs
Oh what joy and what surprise
when I open up my eyes
to see a hippo hero standing there

I want a hippopotamus for Christmas
Only a hippopotamus will do
No crocodiles or rhinoceroseses
I only like hippopotamuseses
And hippopotamuses like me too!

What a great song.

Did you know that this song has a connection to a real zoo?

I was at the Oklahoma City Zoo last week and bought their commemorative book about the history of the Zoo. In that book, they tell about how this zoo was inspired to acquire a hippo when an Oklahoma girl (10-year-old Gayla Peevy)made the song "Hippopotamus for Christmas" famous in 1953. There's a picture of Gayla with the new hippo in the book.

Should be our forum song! Like every time we enter the home page it plays! ahahaha ;)
