Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park - Species List (September 2025)
This is the first comprehensive species list for the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park to be posted on ZooChat! The Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park, often referred to as the “Best Little Zoo in the West,” first opened in 1935 and is currently owned and operated by the City of Idaho Falls Parks and Recreation Department. I’ve put together a comprehensive species list for the collection, noting subspecies where appropriate to provide more taxonomic detail. I have followed the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species for all common and scientific names. For clarity, I have divided the collection based on the Zoo's major exhibitions. All mixed-species exhibits are grouped together as well.
Little Asia
Mammals in the Zoo's animal ambassador program include domestic rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus domesticus), lesser hedgehog tenrec (Echinops telfairi), southern three-banded armadillo (Tolypeutes matacus), and long-tailed chinchilla (Chinchilla lanigera). These species are housed alongside other reptile and invertebrate animal ambassadors in the building labeled "Habitat" on the Zoo's map.
