People outside Australia won't understand this but I made Brendan Fevola's lunch a couple of weeks ago at my work and he was the biggest A-hole I've ever met (it's not hard to imagine).

I would like to meet herpetologist and current host of Nat Geo WILD's Dangerous Encounters, Brady Barr. I just love the Enthusiasm he shows. His Ambition to educate people about wildlife. His Desire to spend as much time outside in the places we love. Just all around nice guy. :)
 
Right, so when you guys meet these people..... then what? You ask for an autograph and a pic? Or you want to ask them a series of questions? Or maybe you want to shoot some hoops with them? It sounds like meeting famous people is highly overrated.

I'd point out that in the Chamber of Secrets Professor McGonnagall magics sandwiches into Snape's dungeon even though that's against the rules of magic. And then listen to Stephen Fry tell witty anecdotes, while Kate Bush talks about the inspiration behind Hounds of Love, and Sir David reminisces about his time in Papua New Guinea. All over a nice dinner in Copenhagen or somewhere cool like that.
Seriously, this is just like a fantasy zoo thread. There isn't much chance of it happening (especially the people who want to meet Michael Jackson (goodness knows why)) and if it does then I'll have a good story to tell my grandkids. You can't say there isn't someone in the world that you would pass up the opportunity of having a chat with if given the chance.
 
I'm sorry, but those sandwiches were made by the staff house elves. Professor McGonnagall only cause them to apperate into Snape's dungeon.
 
Seriously out of everyone, it would probably come down between Theodore Roosevelt, the father of US national parks and my favorite politician of all time (Even though he was a Republican:rolleyes:), another favorite on this thread, J.K. Rowling whose Harry Potter novels and their respective movies basically made my childhood, and either Sir David, Gerald Durrell, or George Schaller (All famous for being naturalists, but for different reasons). And if I had to pick a professional athlete it would probably come down to LeBron James or Michael Phelps

Although it is a fantasy thread, I am quite interested in the psychology of people who adore celebrities. I am always fascinated to see young girls crying when Justin Bieber enters a room, so I was curious as to what people would actually do if they won an hour with one of their heroes - just chat? What would you ask Michael Jordan or Michael Jackson? If I had an hour with Sunny Leone, I wouldn't have any questions to ask. :cool:

A few years ago, on television, I saw and ad for Michael Parkinson's show, where he was interviewing Sean Connery. I thought that would be really interesting and recorded it.

And after watching I realised exactly how brilliant an actor Connery is, because as a person he seemed to be almost devoid of any personality.

In the eighties and nineties I worked in a TV station in Australia, and got to meet a lot 'stars', not just Australian but also internationals. Some are nice. Some are nice and up-themselves. Others are just plain pricks.

Be aware that the person you admire might fall into the latter category.

You are so right, I always thinks it's probably best to avoid your heros in case you get to see their feet of clay and have your illusions destroyed, although sometimes you need to see the feet of clay so that you are not worshipping a complete <insert suitable noun>

I went to an event where Jane Goodall was signing books, she completely ignored the people who were having books signed and talked to the person accompanying her. A small amount of courtesy wouldn't go amiss! I know what she has achieved but it still annoys me!
 
The problem is, famous people are continually bombarded by the same stupid questions.

Imagine how many times David Attenborough has been asked "What's your favourite animal?"

Even if a ZooChatter met Jane Goodall , most questions you would ask her would be the same ones she gets frequently. You'll find people like her are more interested in hearing about what you do (if it interests them).

I met Mark Carwardine a couple of weeks ago and had to really resisist asking him about Sirocco!!! :)
 
I met Shaun Micallef the other day. I said that my wife and I loved his shows and she wouldn't believe that I met him, so would he mind taking a photo with me. He said sure, and little had to kneel to be in the photo with me (is he so tall, or am I so short? :D). the encounter lasted about 40 seconds so I don't think he minded. I had no sensible questions to ask, so a photo was enough for me.
 
I think I would like to meet David Attenborough, he is the closest thing to "my hero". He said "in da hood" on the Desert Seas doco which was on TV last night :D.

I would also like to meet a few authors, especially Philip Pullman, and John Marsden (although I have met him previously). I think I could have a decent conversation with these people, unlike most "celebrities" who I don't really have anything in common with.

Gerald Durrell would be cool to have met as well, although I think his books might have nor portrayed his character particularly accurately, and I would be a bit worried that he would fall into the arrogant camp. I know other ZooChatters have met him, so they can tell me if I am miles off here.

No offence intended nanoboy, but are you actually a proper dwarf, or just a bit shorter than average?
 
I met Durrell on a couple of occasions and he was a genuinely nice person. But he did have his flaws - read Douglas Bottings biography.
