Unless I've missed something, I don't think these are sub-Antarctic countries![]()

They all have laid claim to a slice of Antarctica though. But currently all these claims are moot because of the Antarctic treaty system of 1961...

My top 5:
- Madagascar
- Antarctica (not sure which part so I could also mean Argentina, Australian, Chili, France, New Zealand, Norway or UK )
- Papua New Guinea
- Namibia
- Costa Rica
Kenya was also on my wish list but having planned a trip for next year, I could get it off my wish list
I don't think Chili is, either.Unless I've missed something, I don't think these are sub-Antarctic countries![]()

I assume you are, but just to be sure: You know Alaska isn't its own country right? It's a state within the United States of America (the 49 state to be exact).New Zealand
Finland
Oman
Alaska
Argentina

I just watched a Nat Geo documentary about wildlife of the DMZ and wow! I know you said it was pretty but I wasn't expecting anything like that (that being said I wouldn't be surprised if none of it was actually filmed within the DMZ and was just film very close to it on the South Korean side)There's an excellent documentary that can be viewed on YouTube about a photographer and a couple of others who took the risk and saw some amazing wildlife.
The DMZ is an important region for cranes and other waterbirds on their migrations. ICF does work there.I just watched a Nat Geo documentary about wildlife of the DMZ and wow! Fairly easy one for me - I've already been to Madagascar, and that's enough "exotic" for me! These other countries have been chosen for their zoos/wildlife/personal reasons.
1. UK
2. Germany
3. Australia - A dear friend lives there.
4. USA
5. Canada - I have family there that I would love to visit one day.
(When answering this question, obviously your own country doesn't count.)
Well... Someone needs to start paying more attentionYou've presumably been misleading us as regards your location then![]()
I'd like to revisit this question I proposed over a year ago. My list isn't changing because I've visited some of the countries on my previous list (unfortunately) but rather because of new information I've learned. This question is meant for people like me who have not yet, but hope to someday, visit(ed) outside there home country. (When answering this question, obviously your own country doesn't count.)
For me I'd chose:
I chose the countries I did predominately for their wildlife. Also for the record, I'd love to visit many more countries than this someday but these are my top 5.
- Australia
- Costa Rica (I will most likely be visiting this country next year!
)
- Democratic Republic of Congo
- Japan
- Kenya
Iceland for nice birding? To be honest I would describe it as one of the worst place to go birding. The forests that originally covered the island are completely gone, so there aren't many species left there. This is my new list:
1. Japan (a country that fascinates me for its food, its temples and its birds, such as Japanese pygmy woodpeckers, Varied tits and possibly Red-crowned cranes.
2. Iceland (for scenery and nice birding)
3. Tanzania/Uganda (Tanzania has rhinos and wild dogs, Uganda golden monkeys, shoebills and great blue turacoes... it's tough to choose only one!)
4. Sri Lanka (less polluted and crowded than India and with some interesting species, such as sloth bears and leopards).
5. Madagascar (do I really have to say why?)
Honorable mentions include Namibia, Borneo, Mauritius, Jordan, Oman, Australia and a return to Egypt (Wadi el Gimal NP for Western Palearctic rarities, such as Namaqua doves, Goliath herons, Crab plovers, Pied kingfishers, Brown boobies, African collared doves...).
There aren't many species, but Harlequin ducks and Barrow goldeneyes are nice species indeed.Iceland for nice birding? To be honest I would describe it as one of the worst place to go birding.
