Well my home zoo already has one of these (amur leopard), which I would keep, and for my second I'm not sure there are any good options on here. My home zoo is WAY too small to accommodate Rhinos, elephants, or orangutans, and it wouldn't make sense to get giant Otters or pygmy hippos since other zoos in the region keep both these species and they are not cold tolerant. Even though it's not a very realistic choice for a US zoo, I'll get Asiatic Lions out of process of elimination.

I chose Pygmy hippopotamus and Giant otter.

Those species are present and are bred in European zoos, at least theoretically the space to build an exhibit for them is available at my local zoo, Zoo Planckendael, and the species could fit in with the zoo's existing collection and theming.

Planckendael already has Asian (mainland) elephants and Asian lions, and will be getting orangutans next year. Sumatran rhinos are not realistic in terms of imports and they already have fairly well-breeding Indian rhinos. Amur leopards would be an interesting option also, but building a modern leopard exhibit would in my opinion require too much space, probably at the expense of some of the Asian aviaries.

Even though it’s a 45-minute drive from my house, I’m gonna go with Detroit as my home zoo, as it is still the closest one to my house. I believe pygmy hippopotamus would be the best of these species for the zoo, because I know exactly where they can go. You see, Detroit used to keep a single common hippopotamus in a habitat that was too small for it, which is why they phased the species out after the last one passed away a decade ago. Said habitat though, I think would be around the right size for a couple of pygmy hippopotamus, especially if they expanded the water area by a little bit. I should add that the former hippo habitat is now technically part of the aardvark enclosure, but this makes it so massive, I think it would be fine if they divided it up again.

No way would Detroit be able to get Sumatran rhinos imported, both orangutans and Amur leopards they’d potentially have room for but there would have be a lot of construction involved for new exhibit space, I have no idea where they would put giant otters, they already have African lions and probably couldn’t get Asiatic ones anyways, and there is no room for Borneo elephants or elephants or any kind.

Giant otter and / or pygmy hippo. Okapi would be a good third candidate.

ALSO: I will never again propose an overseas Sumateran rhino ex situ. The best solution there is intensively managed reserves call them conservancies for breeding the species in large controlled spaces. I believe only Leuser has a good population. Way Kambas I believe sort out how many left in situ and expand the rhino station there. Buit Barisan .... then an update?

Pygmy hippo, simply because my home zoo (Chester) either already has species listed or representatives of the same family. Chester doesn't have any hippos (yet) so they would be the most unique... even if I would kill to see Sumatran rhinos lol.

OK, so most of the exhibits at my hometown zoo are…
Pretty bad. So, if I could change the zoo up, let’s say, connect the the leopard exhibits, get rid of both species, connect them to the puma exhibit, and get rid of the puma, then It might be enough space for an orangutan. So I choose that.(also because there are not that many zoos near it with orangutans )
