Iguanaland Iguanaland - Punta Gorda ( Florida )

Wow, that is a very interesting acquisition. I wonder if the state will be able to distinguish the hatchlings from green iguanas.

The zoo already had this species, so the State is presumably fine with them. The State also distinguishes Saban Black Iguanas from normal green despite hatchlings looking the same. I'm not sure why the Sabans are distinguished but the St. Lucia animals are not.

Could you please summarize, the article is behind a paywall for me.

Basically FWC corruption, they killed somone's pet pregnant Boa and 34 Burmese and Reticulated pythons and not humanely either. they have since lied about the event and tries to claim they retics are invasive in the everglades when there is no breeding population of retics in the everglades

edit: It's become such a major talking point here in Florida, FWC is dodging questions and hiding or deleting responses about the "Holy Thursday Massacre" as people have been calling it.

Sounds similar to when they showed up and euthanized 80 or so of Iguanaland's iguanas before their grace period to phase-out the species was up.

That's pretty much exactly what happened here. This guy with a bunch of pythons tried to rehome them, and managed to rehome many, but wasn't able to in the timeframe. He contacted the FWC to tell them it would take him some more time, and that he still had 40 pythons left, and they arrested him basically on the spot. They then proceeded to kill most of his snakes right in front of him, not humanely, and not limited to the illegal species.
