im opening a new zoo 2010 june/july need help

Dom1989 have you contacted the local zoos around you such as dartmoor or newquay maybe to see about advice or possible surplus animals(not quite sure on the rules for this). Also i live in Holywell Bay(on weekends) 5 mins out of newquay so if u need a volunteer to help you on weekends i will be willing to help. Also the forum on monkeybird lists quite a few exotics(including meerkats). Hope all goes to plan and i will definately visit when you open.

Funnily enough, Newquay Zoo also offers that as well as being long established and having the financial backing of the WWCT. I hate to point this out, but it does seem rather risky setting up so near to the competition - does your business plan account for this?

Am sorry but how do you expect to open a zoo in 6/7 months time if you are only just looking at acquiring animals?
 
i am looking for staff
i have a cats section i already have a serval female
i have 5 cats exibits being built
i have primates
i already have 6 exibits built
a bird house
which will have about 6 species
and others about 6 other exibits
so will be looking for a for a few head keepers and some keepers
i also already have a pairof pygmy marmosets

Can I re-iterate my previous question, because before you look into hiring staff and getting animals it would be wise to assess the viability of the project. You may have already done so, in which case I wish you the very best of luck, however your dream is very different once you have others on board. If this fails a few years down the line, the reality is that you will have several members of staff looking for jobs and will probably have to cull most of the animals. Perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I don't want you to pour everything into this and then lose it all when the money runs out.

I await a (hopefully) positive reply.

basically im starting small witha few staff and ive already got 10 hotels in newquay in the summer to give out tickets to guests sayin that one child go free so that should drum up some customers.secondly im going to have an advertising campaign before we open and im managing my money just fine.
 
hiya spoke to you on rfuk.... the capuchin advert above will be a scam please dont use it.
the best place would be wholesalers, brokers and private breeders, but if you are starting a zoo i would have thought you would have already had these contacts.
the best thing to do is work towards biaza standard as quick as possible as you will get credability and also access to the surplus list as previously mentioned, word of advice is that if you are looking at newquay then you already have newquay zoo close by which will you will need to compete with.
also i find next year a very quick period to open up a zoo even with all your plans.
many of the animals you mention are very easy to get hold of and alot of the links presented alreayd will help.

i dont know many brokers or private breeders if any one has links or websites or know of any animals for sale please send them on here please

That sounds good, I'll have to come down next year and see how it turns out.
 
id love to come!! seems like a nice little place your starting up, and may i ask how much did you start off with money wise?
