Are there any possibilities of seeing a Kakapo now or next years? Officially it is not, but apparently some islands can be visited and one tame male is sometimes shown to the public
The only way to see one is through volunteering with the Dept of Conservation at the beginning of each breeding season. They take around 200 volunteers. It isn't possible to otherwise visit anywhere they live - that's part of the conservation effort - and Sirocco's public appearances are rare and short-lived.
Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari in the Waikato ( Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari) have been planning to take in Kakapo, with the changes to the predator proof fence projected to be finished in March and plans to release kakapo in 2023, so i would say that would be your best chance at seeing one in the near future
