After the body blow of losing the appeal for the sale of land, to raise funds for the proposed masterplan for Edinburgh zoo, the royal zoological society of Scotland is bouncing back with proposals for an Amazon themed complex, based on the river Clyde in Glasgow.
This complex, will be inspired by the Burgers zoo in Holland, where thematic, climate controlled exhibits for rainforest and desert species are shown to the public.
An exact location is not known (by me), and species mentioned include manatee, sloths, jaguar and primates.
The proposed budget is £35 million pounds with the zoological society looking for funding from various sources.
This project has been in the melting pot for a few years now, and now will come to the forefront after the rejection of the masterplan funding option, the society has always stated it would want a presence in the west coast, especially since the closing of the Glasgow zoo.
This chance for a major collection in Glasgow has to be grasped, there is a timeline for completion to coincide with the commonwealth games coming to Glasgow in 2014.
