Does anyone know whether the Independent Zoo Enthusiast Society still exists?

It does indeed, and I'm the membership secretary. If you'd like to (re?)join, PM your details.

Do you have to be over a certain age to be a member of this society?
Im guessing you do.I would love to join though!
Regards

I would recommend ( just had to check the dictionary for that !) joining IZES to all keen UK ZooChatters who are not already members .

The Independent Zoo Enthusiasts Society was set up in the mid-1990s by Tim Brown. It is a society for people interested in zoos and membership is open to anyone. The "independent" in the title is to emphasise the fact that the society has no affiliation with a particular zoo. The Society produces a quarterly newsletter "Zoo Grapevine" and holds a meeting and collectors fair each Spring.

I've received a number of membership enquiries which is great. If anyone else is interested in joining, please PM me your name and address and I will arrange for a sample newsletter and subscription details to be sent out to you.

Is their a small fee for joining?
Sorry for so many questions i just want to know about what i hopefully will be joining :)

The IZES newsletter is top quality, admittedly the news section is a little out dated to zoochat member, but there are a few gems in there.
But for me the true highlight is the in depth zoo reviews from members, over the past few editions, there have been reviews of collections in Florida, Valencia, Poland, RSCC, Berlin and the new Yorkshire wildlife park amongst others.
It is worth subscribing for the reviews alone.

From the last newsletter:

"We have reached the point where subscriptions are due and rather than do this on an annual basis I would sooner see how much money we accumulate and then just run issues until we run out of funds. So this subscription will fund at least four issues of Zoo Grapevine but possibly as many as eight ...

I am very hopeful that the 'IZES Guide to British Zoos' will appear in 2009 and this will be offered to members on a 'cost-only' basis ...

The rate is £21 for UK members and £29 for overseas members (due to increased postage)"

Thankyou for that Robmv i think i may join!, It seems very good and i cant wait to subscibe,
Cheers

The summer 2009 issue of zoo grapevine has arrived on my doormat, highlights include

A review of the British wildlife centre in Surrey
A 16 collection review of zoos and aquaria of the mid west in the USA, at 10 pages long it is very in depth.
A book review of Handbook of the mammals, volume 1 and International zoo yearbook vol 43
New discoveries
UK zoo news and international zoo news.

And the promise of 2 books to be published in the autumn for a greatly discounted price to members.
And my reminder for my subscription confirms that my membership will last for 2 years and cover 8 issues of zoo grapevine.

A bargain!!!!!

How does one obtain a membership/subscription? A Google Search led to a dead end? Which US zoos were reviewed in this issue?

Thanks

Sorry to drag up an old thread but has IZES had a new website in recent months or have I just missed something? Because the site that Google keeps sending me too isn't working...
