Goodwin) - transcript of an address given by the Director of Science at the Zoological Society of London to the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science in September 1979, discussing the importance of scientific research in zoological collections.
- Three Asian Zoos (Jan van den Brink) - a ten-page review of the zoological collections located in Karachi (Pakistan), Columbo (Sri Lanka) and Kathmandu (Nepal).
- Breeding the Arrow-marked Babbler (Turdoides jardinei) at San Antonio Zoo (S. David McKelvey) - a short account written by a staff aviculturalist at San Antonio Zoo providing notes on the husbandry and behaviour of the species in question, and the successful hand-rearing of a single chick in September 1978.
- Conservation - a collection of various news items relating to conservation and ecological issues, including pugmarks and scratches recorded on Bali which potentially belonged to extant Bali Tiger or an unknown population of leopard.

- Editorial (Nigel Sitwell) - report on a recent visit to Selous Game Reserve in southern Tanzania.
- Red Junglefowl: A Zoo Neccessity (S. David McKelvey) - opinion piece written by an aviculturist at San Antonio Zoo, discussing the various important roles which red junglefowl can play within a zoological collection - the incubation, hatching and rearing of more exotic taxa, experimental models for veterinary research in zoos, learning resources within the educational department of a collection, and as a source of fresh meat for carnivorous species.
- Keeping & Breeding the Waldrapp Ibis (A. Schenker, U. Hirsch, M. Mallet, H. Pechlaner, E. Thaler and H. Wackernagel) - a detailed account of the current knowledge available regarding the captive husbandry of Waldrapp Ibis, drawing on the experiences of keepers at Jersey Zoo, Zoo Basel and Alpenzoo Innsbruck; information within includes the minimum requirements for aviary dimensions, observations on recommended aviary design, substrate, nesting areas and vegetation, maximum recommended population density, observations on breeding behavior and hand-rearing techniques, and the standard diet used at the three zoological collections in question.

- Dream comes true with Arabian Oryx (Nigel Sitwell) - article on the success of the captive breeding programme for Arabian Oryx, along with recommendations for a similar programme to start focused on the Scimitar-horned Oryx, and the observation that the last wild-born Arabian Oryx had recently passed away at Phoenix Zoo.

- Conservation - a collection of short articles and news items relating to the following; a planned hydro-electric dam which threatened a significant area of habitat for the Lion-tailed Macaque; the first international pheasant symposium held in November 1979; the establishment of TRAFFIC (USA) or Trade Records Analysis of Flora and Fauna in Commerce subsequent to the formation of TRAFFIC (INTERNATIONAL) IN 1975; a three-fold increase in Soviet whaling activity aimed at Killer Whale between October 1979 and April 1980; reports of ivory poachers in Thailand removing the tusks from working elephants without killing the animals; an increase in the smuggling of birds-of-paradise into Japan; and a 50% increase in Southern Reedbuck populations between 1974 and 1977.

- Editorial (Nigel Sitwell) - opinion piece discussing the need for management of captive populations when space is limited, genetic lines are overrepresented, or inbreeding depression is likely, and the three options available; prevention of breeding, culling at birth or in the egg, or culling later in life.
- Saving Europe's Herpetofauna (John Coborn) - a general summary of the talks and presentations which took place at the 1980 European Herpetological Symposium held at Cotswold Wildlife Park; these focused on the captive and in-situ conservation of European native reptiles and amphibians.
- New Enclosures at Cologne Zoo (Ernst Kullmann) - an article written by the director of Zoo Köln, discussing the recent construction of a lemur house, and the need to adapt it for larger species such as black-and-white guereza due to delays in the construction of a house for large primates; this required the construction of larger cages connected to the main body of the house via bridges which extended over the visitor footpath.
- New Zoo for Tripoli (Peter Ferguson) - an article discussing plans for a new zoological and botanical garden to be constructed in the city centre of Tripoli, Libya, with concept drawings and models showing some of the planned layout and design.
- Readers Letters - these cover the following subjects; a response by the editor of The Proceedings on Mycobacterial Infections of Zoo Animals to a critical review in the October 1979 issue of IZN; the importance of taxonomic knowledge within zoological collections to prevent the creation of "zoomix" populations; reports of black rhinoceros both in the wild and captivity with three horns in total; and the value of ethological research in zoological collections.

- Editorial (Nigel Sitwell) - opinion piece on the motivations of zoo visitors, and the bearing these motivations may have on the best way to approach the promotion of conservation causes.
- Indonesian Parrots Need Zoo's Help (Roland Wirth) - article on the conservation threats facing many of the parrot taxa native to the Moluccas and Lesser Sundas, giving information relating to particular examples and arguing that zoological collections need to establish breeding programmes for these taxa and others.
- Species Popularity at Quebec Zoo (Sylvie Cantin and Jacques Prescott) - a detailed 12-page research article on the relative popularity of various species at the zoological collection in question and the factors impacting this popularity, using data compiled through two means; the observation of visitors, and the direct interview of a random sample of these visitors. The article is accompanied by several information tables presenting the results of this research.

- Visitor Routes at Quebec Zoo (Sylvie Cantin and Jacques Prescott) - the second portion of a detailed analysis of visitors to Quebec Zoo, Canada, discussing the routes taken by visitors to the collection, and the time spent at each exhibit. This includes an explanation of methodology and results, along with maps of the collection and a table classifying each major exhibit by the percentage of visitors who spent time there, and ranking them by number of visitors and time spent in total.
