On March 6th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) African bush elephant named Zahara is pregnant and is due in October. This will mark the first time that an elephant and her offspring will both be born through artificial insemination and will "complete" the third generation of the herd.

Anyone know of the current status of the chimps, I know they are getting a new exhibit expected to open in 2024. The reason for my question is Puerto Rico only chimpanzee a female named Mara will be transferred there soon after the zoo’s official closure last month.

Indianapolis Zoological Society is offering a $1 million grant to an organisation that can develop a plan to save an animal species currently designated as threatened on the IUCN Red List.

The first stage of the application is due on 4th June 2023 and the winner will be announced in February 2024, with the winner decided by a panel of conservation experts from around the world. The winner will then have five years to get the project started and demonstrate some progress.

On April 13th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (1.0) serval to the Los Angeles Zoo in California.

A piece of news not mentioned yet in 2022:

On January 14th, the zoo announced that construction has started on a new east entrance and entry plaza. It will be completed in Spring 2023, and during construction, the White River Gardens area will be closed to the public.

It is interesting that the zoo has quite nice plant scapes instead of animal exhibits as the mood-setter as one enters the zoo. What are the first animals that a visitor sees?

It will be chimpanzees when the exhibit opens next year, but at the moment it's seals and sea lions.

I have recently visited the zoo (also backstage) and I have a few notes:

• Marabou Stork are no longer present, confirmed with Emails
• Don’t know if this was mention but the Lemurs are in Florida. Although they do hold 2.0 backstage.
• Northern Bobwhite are in longer in deserts
• Construction for the chimps is progressing nicely. Keepers have stated there are 7 in the zoo
• The Global Center for Species Survival is breathtaking. I will post photos soon.

The Global Center for Species Survival is the newly renovated White River House, some keepers refer to this place while referring to the whole gardens area but it is mainly the building for the gardens. Hope this helps!

Yes, they will be returning, many keepers and emails have said that the would along with the website and many signage claiming that they are returning.

There is the Butterfly Kaidescope containing about 40 species of butterfly and there are many koi ponds located in the entire area including the Kaidescope.
