Inspired by this thread; Zoos that got rid of elephants and later brought them back
The only case I'm aware of was in Ragunan Zoo. The Jakartan zoo had previously kept several large Komodo dragons in the past, but the species has been gone until 2023. During that time, the three square-shaped exhibits complex has been a vacant, with one exhibit housing a large group of Asian water monitor even to this day. In February of 2023, Ragunan received a pair of Komodo dragons, named Paulita and Juma, from Taman Safari Bogor in an exchange. As of August of 2024, the numbers of dragons has seemingly increased (I counted around four dragons in one exhibit), it does seems like Ragunan have had succesful breedings or possibly getting more dragons from other sources.
Kebun Binatang Ragunan Tambah Koleksi Satwa Komodo Tahun Ini
In some cases, zoos had previously kept Komodo dragons, but haven't brought them back. Bandung Zoological Garden had previously kept their dragons in somewhat of an interesting exhibit that looks similar to the old dragon exhibit in Taman Safari Bogor (Current southern cassowary exhibit), I have no idea what the exhibit's status is currently now. Gembira Loka had a large individual that bizarrely lived togethed with a group of Aldabra giant tortoises (Komodo dragon and aldabra tortoise enclosure - ZooChat). As of now, the exhibit had been flooded to house a large group of Malaysian giant turtle, in which the zoo is actively breeding.
