Blackpool Zoo Inside natures giants

Anyone else watch this? Tonight was the episode where they dissected an elephant, was fascinating! She was from Blackpool (Crumple maybe?), and she had very bad arthritis in her knee joints. And god they have a lot of guts!
Next week they're soing a whale with giraffe and alligator to follow. It's brilliant, even I recommend it and I'm a vegetarian ;)

I watched the beginning, but soon went back to the Murray match! But from what I saw I found it fascinating seeing this different perspective of my favourite animal, and whilst the review in the Guardian said you'll probably end up covering your eyes, I was watching very intentley. :)

Missed this tonight, was hooked on the tennis, Andy Murray won in a 5 set classic, will watch the elephant programme on line, sounds fascinating.

Same Dalek, although she looked pretty gruesome with no skin on her face... Was fascinating seeing all the trunk muscles and that though.

Charlie Brooker gave this a good mention a couple of days ago and I did mean to watch it, however I had forgotten about it.

It will be online on the channel 4 player soon enough though.

I definitly couldn't stomach a programme like that!! And the fact that it was an animal I can remember seeing alive would have made it even harder for me. I still can't help but think it was a remarkable co-incidence that the vets advised that Crumple should be put down due to her declining quality of life, at the same time as C4 wanted an elephant carcass to carve up for this programme... :(

I agree it was somewhat a coincidence, but her joints were in a right state so she was probably better off. But yes, rather appropriate timing...

Sad. :( I wonder what they'd have done normally, i.e. if it wasn't for this programme? I guess we shall never know. Same goes for any money they got for donating the body.

We can't really assume that. I guess they would have done it any way, she appeared in a bad way.

That's a possibility. Can't imagine there would be many more places for them to get one.

This is the giraffe they will be doing the autopsy on, not sure if anybody is able to tell whether it is fay or not?

That I can't tell you, will be interesting though, especially seeing all the different parts of the neck and that.

Jolly of Longleat is another possible candidate, as apparently she's died too, but I don't know when.

A third candidate is Mary of Marwell. Apparentley her remains lead to some kind of better understanding of giraffe anatomy, as we were told at Oryx Club.
