Intrusive Ads

Over the last few weeks I've been getting ads on this site (always for Lego) that take up nearly my entire screen - the entire bottom half plus a border all the way around the rest. I have no problem with ZooChat running ads, but ads taking up this much space on my screen is really violating. Is anyone else seeing these, and is there a way to get rid of these ads specifically?
 
I just got another one of these ads for the car brand Kia. So it's not just the Lego ad, this is a whole type of ad that is appearing on the site now.

It's certainly something I'd consider if I keep getting these, but part of the issue is that it just doesn't sit right for me to start paying to block ads that is making it difficult to use the site for me. When one of these ads appears, if I don't reload the page I can't really do anything but gaze at one post at a time. If these ads increase increase in frequency, I think I'm more likely to just stop using the site than start paying for something I used to able to get for free.

Is it possible for you to get a screenshot of the page when the advert is showing?

I'll investigate - it is never my intention to make the site less usable by showing intrusive adverts.

The advertising is handled by a third party provider - sometimes they run experiments, but if it's causing problems, I have no issue with asking them to stop.
 
Stop looking at Legos, then :p The ads are based on stuff you might like - I just briefly had one for petsmart, for example.

The content of the ad isn't the issue, the issue is how much of the screen it's taking up. I noted that it was for Legos in the first post only because that was the only one of that type I'd seen, so I thought it might have specific for that one ad. I now know this is not the case.
 
I occasionally get full screen ads on the site similar to what @birdsandbats is describing - normally I don't mind the ads, but those type are really annoying when I have to refresh the page to actually get past the ad. It's usually a pet related advertiser - I forget the specific brand.
 
Oh, I thought you meant it was blocking the text like an interstitial or a pop-over or overlay advert.

That does look like an experimental format - a combination of a floating footer with margin takeover.

I'll reach out to my advertising intermediary and discuss it with them.
 
Well have you bought any lego yet? They won't stop until you buy some.

But then because you clicked the link, they will know that you are interested in lego and will start giving you more ads.

Also, the fact that we've mentioned lego in this thread means it's more likely you'll see lego ads too :rolleyes:
 
The frequency increased significantly today, too. I've been averaging one every few minutes and over the last 20 minutes or so I've been getting one every few seconds.
 
Found out today when one of these ads is active I can't click on anything on the site - I basically have to reload.
 
It's weird - I haven't seen any of these ads at all.

If possible, can you right mouse click on the advert and "copy link address" (or whatever option your browser has) and then paste it in here, or DM me with it?

I need to try and identify the specific advertiser from the advert URL.

I get these occasionally that take over the whole screen - similar to that? I have to refresh the page to be able to access my alerts and whatnot on mobile, the ad overlays on top of it.

Yeah, I can scroll past it and read, it's just annoying as it "auto-clings" to the visible screen, so to speak. All of the drop down menus on the top bar go behind the ad though, which is odd to me, usually they should drop in front of the ad per experience elsewhere. I usually just refresh the page when one of those ads pops up to avoid dealing with it.
 
It can be tricky with mobile ads, but can you try touching and holding the ad to see if a menu pops up which allows you to copy the advert URL and then post it here or send it to me?
