I know the forum is dedicated to all things zoo but I thought I would post this conservation information here because all zoos throughout the country try to educate people about the risks involved with invasive species.
Ontario is looking at passing the country's first invasive species legislation. The bill is aimed at a plan to deal with the very real threat Asain Carp are posing to our fisheries. The goal is to allow the government to react sooner to the threats invasive species pose. There will be stricter enforcement, more aggressive inspections, and probably funds available to protect Ontario's wildlife.
Will all this be effective? Probably not but any step forward has to be a step in the right direction.
I would love to hear what Toronto Zoo thinks about the bill. I highly doubt they would comment until its possibly law but even then probably not.
