Over the last three years I've been going to my localk zoo Dudley regulary and am yet to see the porcupines out in the enclosure.
I also visit Birmingham Nature Centre regulary and am yet to see the beaver out in the enclosure.
Now have you been to a zoo regulary and not seen one of there animals out in the enclosure but you know that they have one in the overnight quarters.
this is not to be a put down on any zoo please.

You have to be extremely lucy to see a beaver, I've never seen them at Birmingham either. I did see them on occasion at Chester but I can't recall ever seing one anywhere else.

Well I guess it makes it more fun whenever you look hard to try and spot some kind of animal thats hard to see.

Amphibians I've found particualarly hard to see. But i can't think of a particular animal.

I was surprised that its actually that hard to spot any beavers!

When Chessington kept beavers in a small concrete enclosure alongside the Monkey Walk - I think they bred here - they were often active during the day .

which other animals are a no show in which zoo's
if we can find out which animals and what zoo's perhaps other people can help and tell us the best time to visit

happy christmas everybody

I think the beavers at Edinburgh are often out late in the afternoon at this time of year, just when it's starting to get dark and in the summer they are out at dusk too which unfortunately is long after the zoo has closed.
I think that in general there are some zoo animals which are more active at dawn and dusk which means for most of the time they are not going to be seen during the day.
If you are able to ask a keeper they might be able to give you inside info especially when they are fed etc.
