The Deep Is it worth a visit?

I may have to opportunity to make a detour and go to The Deep next week but I just wanted your advice as to if it is worth the effort.

I don't want to get there and find its just a bigger Sealife Center.

Bear in mind I have been to the Two Oceans, The Shedd and Atlanta so I am not expecting to be blown away but I would like to be reassured it is worth the effort.

How long would a visit take?

I've not visited so I can't say how long a visit would need but I'd definitely check it out if I were you, it's apparently the best the UK has to offer (not saying much mind you), and is supposed to be a bit more comprehensive and conservation-orientated than your typical SeaLife. Definitely go for it, :)

Definitely go for it; it is admittedly nowhere near as good as the best that Europe can offer at places such as Lisbon, Valencia or Burgers.... but it is certainly miles beyond any SeaLife I have visited and is the best aquarium in the UK that I have visited, although I am told that the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is superior.

A visit should take you about 2 hours, perhaps 3 if you dawdle.

My stepdad has visited both in the past three years and his opinion is that The Deep is far superior. He's not a zoo enthusiast though so his opinion doesn't count for too much... :p

There is another animal collection in Hull, according to ZTL:
The Animal Education Centre has 37 species including the raccoon dog and great curassow.

Yep, I actually visited it as a twofer last time I went to The Deep - it's pretty good!

There are a few smaller collections at some of Hull's other city parks. I would recommend a visit to the Deep. As others suggest, it's no Two Oceans Aquarium, but it is certainly good. And very different from Sea Life Centres.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. Trip cancelled as it turns out I'm not free to travel as I am dog sitting for my daughter. Maybe after Christmas (and it is indoors and warm useful in the winter).
Again thank you all for the input.

Funny you should say that as while I was reading the first part of your post I was thinking that the National Marina Aquarium is better - but there is not a great deal between the two and I would definitely agree that they are the best we have to offer. I think 2 hours will be enough.

My favourite exhibit at the deep is the cool seas exhibit. They used to have some Australian Pineapplefish and Splitfin Flashlighfish and even a John Dory!
