Noah's Ark Zoo Farm Is that a cub moving on the bedding

Tira still not well following the birth :confused:

Just been watching them on webcam trying to get her to eat ? still on antibiotics! by prodding her in the mouth with chunks of meat on sticks!!

She has been practically sleeping no stop since the birth and apparently not eating although her stomach still looks big when she is laying down!

They have also changed the position of the outside webcam so the outside enclosure does seem to look at bit better than the awful wooden platform shown before :rolleyes:

Did wonder if she had died as the webcam went down several days ago and she was just laying in the bed all day :mad:

To all Tira fans. Apologies for not feeding back to you sooner. We are very sorry to report that Tira has passed away. She died of an incurable Cat disease that causes total organ failure. The disease can lay dormant in cats their entire life. Tira was just one of the unlucky ones. As you can imagine we are all very sad here at the zoo. When an animal dies it is like loosing a close friend. All the keepers can do now is concentrate all their efforts on the other cats which are thriving and becoming more and more adventurous every day. They have already discovered some of their Tiger toys and loving running after ducks in their outdoor enclosure. Thank you all for watching and apologies again for not feeding back to you sooner. Noah’s Ark.
 
Well having worked with big cats for over 10 years, I've never heard of a disease that can cause total organ failure!!!!!!

I suspect it was retained placenta or a dead cub that was not passed and caused septicimea or something similar, perhaps i'm being sceptic but do they have a vet or just rely on the power of prayer!!!!!!

bad luck? or bad practice?? i know which i think. The tiger webcams seem to be off at the moment, and i notice their website has been quickly amended to state that just 2 bengal tigers arrived, no mention of tira now.

I think that just about sums this place up re-writing history because some things not gone to plan!
 
Cant believe how much ive missed while ive been away,
Ive been on the Noahs Ark website and Tira's just been erased out of everything on there so sad there should be something up about her.
We cant just forget about an animal completely like that.
And what about the cub? - Like many have said on here Noahs Ark have no experiance with cats at all,I hope he survives but the odds grow on this one :(
Hope he goes somewhere when hes older where he can be looked after by experianced keepers in an enclosure of his own with a new mate,Perhaps this could set up a new breeding Bengal pair somewhere? starting up the species again thats if hes pure of course.

noahs ark will feature on michaelas animal road trip tomorrow at 6pm on channel 5. it shows the tigers arriving and being unloaded.
 
Riziki, I think there's a snowballs chance in hell that they're pure bred :P
 
I heard a story that John Corder of the World pheasant association hand reared a female Bengal tiger from Howletts and successfully reintroduced her to the wild where she bred with a wild male. Then Aspinall fell out with the stud book keeper and they declared his tigers hybrids as they were not going to be included in the sud book. The Indian government shot Corders tiger and her young. So perhaps Howletts tigers are the real thing?
 
Im pretty sure they werent although, Aspinalls argument im sure is that all tigers hybridised at some point creating the new subspecies at some point a bengal tiger crossed to Sumatra and etc its all rather complicated but Aspinall' knew that a few of the Bengals had abit of sumatran in them but they where mainly Bengal but i do think the Siberians where pure?

I think you will find that the Howletts/Pl Siberian Tigers are genuinly pure, and known to be so whereas the Indian tigers were of mixed ancestry. Howletts have gradualy phased them out as a result.
 
Tigers of my acquaintance Natasha (1992-2007) and Czarina (1993-2007), Siberians born at Howletts and who came to live at IOW Zoo were certainly studbook registered. They were not bred as their bloodline was over-represented in the studbook population. IOW Zoo also has 2 generic Bengals born at Port Lympne (Rajah & Sahib, born 1992), incidentally.

The Michaela Strachan programme said the Noah's tigers travelled from the North-East of England - what does that mean, were they in a collection there?
 
On michaelas animal rod trip it stated noahs arks aim is to get pairs of as many animals as possible! Did anyone else see it?
