Anyway Chesterfield boy, why are you so defensive? Do the Black Country roots really run that deep? :p

Not really (born in Nottingham) but just enjoy winding up Brummies! :D

Black Country side of my family is much more 'rooted' than the other side though.

As it was Dudley Zoo that opened Birmingham Zoo, the city of Birmingham should be eternally grateful to the town of Dudley for the Nature Centre it has today (better gloss over the closure of the zoo bit, although the site is the really important thing).

New England Aquarium is a five minute walk. Franklin Park Zoo is a ten minute drive. Stone Zoo is seven miles to the north. Roger Williams Park Zoo, is under an hour away.

Not really if I should vote 'yes' or 'no'. There is an aquarium in a shopping mall south of me in the same city I live in, but I have yet to visit. My "home zoo" is actually in the next city, but because of where it is in relation to where I live, that zoo is practically in my backyard (I can see the bighorn sheep from my backyard). It's only a 6 minute drive.

The Oakland Zoo is about three miles away, and depending on the mode of transportation I can be at the San Francisco Zoo in about thirty minutes.

Expand that drive out an hour or so and I can be at: the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Safari West, & the Sacramento Zoo. So, yes, I have a zoo in my hometown and can drive to several others in a relatively short amount of time.
