Is there any Black-winged starlings left in Europe

I wonder if any Black-winged starlings Sturnus melanopterus is still being kept in Europe and if so, how many?


I have been told by a German freind of mine that he know of a single pair kept by a private person in Germany and who managed to raise 1 youngster this year, but thats the only one he has produced during several years of keeping this species. It dont appears that any ISIS members except of Jurong still keeps it, but as some zoos and tropical gardens isnt members of ISIS the species may still be keept in Europe.

Or does anyone knows which zoos and tropical gardens this species has been kept at in the past?
 
According to the german species-zoolist they're are still black-winged starling(s?) at Berlin Zoo. I would not know how many though, i could try and find out their story if you want me to...

According to that site another park in Germany held them untill ca. 2006...

That would be really kind of you. They are not common and aim intrested in locating the remaning individuals, and how many they are in Europe.
 
Luisenpark Mannheim (germany) seems to have kept them at least untill 2006 but they were not seen in summer 2007. No reaction yet to the question how many there are in Berlin.

I spoke to a dutch and a belgian private-avian holder and both haven't seen them in a private collection anywhere, but they would estimate it highly possible they have been imported the last few decades so there might be more around.

I'll keep you posted if i find out more...
 
I can confirm you that at least 4 black-winged starlings are still kept at Berlin Zoo now. Most of them are displayed inside the big bird-house but one or two had been shown outside during summer and in the pheasantry.
