Is there any type of animal where you have seen every species?

From memory and not considering subspecies:
- All big cats
- All bears
- Both Hippos
- Both species of two-toed sloth
- All Penguins of the genus Pygoscelis
- Both Anodorhynchus genera
- Both Bisons
- Both Kites in the Milvus genus
- Both species of Alligator
- Both members of Gavialidae
- All three members of the genus Caiman

I'm also one away from seeing all species of Zebra and oryx
Should you wish to look for Mountain Zebra, a trip to Lyon may be in order.

I have seen all 3 living subspecies of lion, both hippos, both orangutans, all 4 species of hyena, all species of zebra, every non-domestic bovine in captivity (musk ox aren't actually bovines), both camels, all flamingos, both coatis, all black bears (still waiting on a himalayan brown, will probs never see one ) and all species of tamarin

There are actually three species of orangutans, the classic two, Bornean and Sumatran, and the third species, Tapanuli, which was just made distinct in 2017 though I believe there are none are currently in captivity.

What is this supposed to say? If "black bears" what do Himalayan Brown Bears have to do with that, and if it was a typo for "brown bears" then I doubt you've seen all brown bears except Himalayan.

I said that because it would've seen every bear in captivity if not for that.

The only one I can think of is bears.
Grizzly, Sun, Sloth, Andean, Black, Polar - Cleveland
Kodiak - Columbus
Giant Panda - Smithsonian (2010)
Asiatic Black - Philadelphia

After one visit to Crocodiles of the World you can see all 8 Alligatorid crocodilians. That’s both Alligator species, Melanosuchus, both Paleosuchus and the 3 Caiman species

off the top of my head
Hippos
Zebras
Panthera
Great Apes
Gharials
"True" Alligators (American & Chinese)
Two-Toed Sloths

Have you seen Eastern Gorilla and Tapanuli Orangutan?

I’ll let that user confirm whether it was an oversight, though it’s worth nothing that any ZooChatter who visited San Diego Zoo between 1977-1995 may have seen their Tapanuli orangutan:

0.1 Bubbles
Born in the wild 00/00/1963
Arrived at San Diego Zoo 15/12/1977 (via Phoenix 1964)
Died at San Diego Zoo 10/04/1995

As someone who’s only seen Bornean and Sumatran orangutans, I’d envy anyone who’s seen all three species!

Here are my tallies as of this writing.

I have seen;
  • All 5 species of Beaded Lizard (Family Helodermatidae)
    • Managed to do this in one calendar year between North Carolina, Jacksonville, and Atlanta)
  • All 5 species of Big Cat (Genus Panthera)
    • Also done in one year, although this one was pretty easy as big cats are common in the Tri-state area.
  • All 4 species of Mamba (Genus Dendroaspis)
    • All thanks to Reptile Gardens, although I have also seen Western Green Mamba at Jacksonville and Riverbanks
  • All 8 species of Bear (Family Ursidae)
    • Sloth Bear became the last species I needed for this, which I only saw for the first time last year at Philadelphia)
  • All 3 species of Zebra (Genus Equus)
  • Both species of Hippopotamus (Family Hippopotamidae)
  • Both species of Alligator (Genus Alligator)
  • Both species of Bog/Wood Turtle (Genus Glyptemys)
