Lowland Anoa (Bubalus depressicornis), then it is the outdoor macaque enclosure and Babirusa (still under construction) before the shop and exit road.


no birds in the Monsoon Forest yet but signs were seen for

I assume that all the plants listed on your list are real and not plastic imitations? I ask because I read there are some plastic trees, but the plant species you have listed are a really good choice and interesting for such an exhibit, especially the Durian.

Also, was there the sounds of thunder and rainfall being played through speakers within the Monsoon exhibit?
 
The plants are real, I don't remember any noise playing. There was a rainstorm scheduled for 12 noon, but GentleLemur and I had left the building by then.

The only fake plants I spotted were a Titan arum flower and a Rafflesia flower - but that may just mean that any other fakes were better or that I'm not expert enough to spot them ;) I have just a posted a photo showing the real immature Titan arum plant.

Yes, and despite my reservations it really added to the atmosphere! I don't know how frequently the thunder sound effect plays- I visited 3 times through the day and only heard it once.

I asked because I too had reservations about it after reading there would be sound effects, but if it is not overkill then yes, it would probably be enjoyable. Good to hear that you thought it boosted the atmosphere.

I have a mental picture in mind that in years to come when the plants are established and in fruit that it will be like The Eden Project with animals! (maybe a bit wishful that :p)

The open forest area is nowhere near as big, as half the building is the orang exhibit, and 25% for macaques and gharials. So, approx 25% of the space is the rainforest.

I think I read somewhere the total footprint is approx 50% bigger (which feels about right I think) it also has a much larger cubic volume giving the exhibits some real height.

The free flight bird area is actually smaller than Tropical Realm though.

Hopefully they use it to warn of an impending rain? Close together the closer it is to rain, would be a good use.
