IZES - Zoo Grapevine Magazine

The magazine seems amazing and I‘d love to subscribe (especially being in the UK) but I’m struggling to see how that works? The website doesn’t seem to exist and the email I sent to the sales email address didn’t arrive according to Gmail. Is there any other route to try?

Hey, I'm not getting any replies on this email. Is there anyone else who can help me set up a subscription please?

Apologies but the problem(apart from the current one with the payment portal on the website) has been that your email inevitably bounces back. I was going to write to you but here you are. Thanks for your patience and persistence. Just send £29 for an annual subscription to sales@izes.co.uk or send c/c details over two emails (as a security measure) and I will pick it up. The Summer edition will be out in August,we sent you Spring previously so you havent missed anything..

Hi Tim,

I need to do this too - can I pay over Paypal with that email address?

Thanks!

I didn't renewed my subscription because of the payment problems but still got an new message from Belgian Customs to pay custom duties.

So apparently a new magazine has been sent. I thought these problems with the Belgian Customs were resolved? The special note 'gift' is apparently no longer mentioned on the package? So that caused the same problems as before.

Just a basic question, from a curious onlooker.
How can it be classed as a gift, if you have paid for a subscription?
If you have paid for something, then it must be a purchase?
Surely this is the the case in Belgium too?

I believe the way that @Tim Brown has explained the matter in the past is that officially his view is that the payment is for membership of the IZES, and the magazine is merely a free perk of membership - akin to how if one is a member of the RSPB you get a copy of the membership magazine every few months along with other benefits, but you aren't purchasing the magazine per se.

However, as noted by @Philipine eagle and others in the past, the Belgian authorities have started to take a rather erratic (but expensive for those who fall foul) stance on the matter.

36 or something euros for a subscription of 4 issues and then 20-26 euros for each issues on custom duties. That's the ridiculous way Belgian Customs interpretate European legislation.
If it's a 'gift' no customs duties have to be paid.
And even more ridiculous: there are Belgian subscribers who don't have to pay anything. So it depends entirely on the official in question.

To be sure to be clear: None of this is the fault of IZES.

Sorry for the delay in response..Ive been abroad looking at zoos (as ever). Managed to clock up #971 (Panthera Park in Slovakia - not very uplifting). But less of that. The problems with the EU and customs is very annoying...yes,we stupidly (in my opinion) voted to leave, but I feel that some of this is a form of revenge. We have had problems with at least half a dozen countries, but Belgium is by far the worst- whatever we have tried - a low cover price, sending as a gift etc etc some officials are determined to charge a ridiculously outrageous amount of duty ,whilst others let it go free gratis How would they feel if a Belgian fruit beer ended up at £20 or more for a small bottle? Apologies all round ,but as Philipine Eagle points out ,it really isnt our fault.
