Updates from my visit today:

  • The Pygmy Rattlesnake and Dajarra Death Adder enclosures were both empty.
  • There is no longer a King Cobra on exhibit, the enclosure is now inhabited by an albino Common Boa (the only on-exhibit non-venomous snake).
  • The Chilean Rose-hair Tarantula that was used as an ambassador animal recently died. A Curlyhair Tarantula is currently in-training to be the new ambassador tarantula.
  • The Fennec Fox is no longer on exhibit.
  • I'll post an updated species list soon on the species list thread.

Oh, forgot to mention, there were no owls on exhibit today, the Bald Eagle was the only bird of prey.

Today I heard a rattlesnake rattle for the first time, and got spit at by a spitting cobra (luckily there was glass in the way). Both of these experiences were extremely cool.

I tagged along with a friend on a private tour of the place recently. Here's a few updates (all relating to the public part of the collection):

-There were new exhibits for Pied Crow, Straw-colored Fruit Bat, and Six-banded Armadillo.
-The Urutu Viper has been replaced by a Blood Python.
-A Sidewinder now lives in the former Pygmy Rattlesnake exhibit.
-The Common Snapping Turtle has been replaced by a Nile Crocodile.
-The Sakishima Habu has been replaced by a Variable Bush Viper.

Some updates from my visit today:

-The Pygmy Rattlesnake is back in its old exhibit.
-A King Cobra has replaced the Common Boa.
-The Six-banded Armadillo enclosure was significantly expanded.
-The exhibit formerly home to Straw-colored Fruit Bats now has a pair of Laughing Kookaburras.
-The Bald Eagle is gone, in its place were a Eurasian Eagle-Owl and a Great Horned Owl.
-There's a new table containing enclosures for a bunch of inverts. These exhibits are:
  • A Dark Fishing Spider
  • A Brown Recluse in literally the smallest enclosure I've ever seen in a zoo
  • A Southern Black Widow
  • An unidentified vinegaroon
  • And a mixed-species cockroach exhibit containing Wide-horned Hisser, Halloween Hisser, Peppered Cockroach, Extinct Roach, Question Mark Roach, Glowspot Roach

Today's public announcement on their official Facebook account:

To all, it is with a heavy heart that we announce MToxins Venom Lab and the Jack Facente serpentarium will be ceasing operations of our storefront, with our last day open to the public on Sunday, May 28th.

It has been an incredible number of years educating the public and getting to touch the community in the manner we have, and we are forever grateful to the Oshkosh and surrounding communities for their support.

We are so proud to have made so many wonderful memories with you all and are eternally grateful.

Hours of operation will remain the same with our last admission taking place at 3pm on the 28th.

I am very sad to hear this. Such a unique and fun place to visit.

I think it is also important to note that on June 8th, it was reported that the facility was fined $238 by the Department of Natural Resources for trying to cover up the death of its (0.1) bald eagle named Ladybird.

Given that this article contain multiple outright lies and half-truths, I'm not sure I believe it. I suggest you do not get news from this website in the future.

I've done several searches trying to find a different article about this and have come up completely empty-handed. I can't even find other social media posts about it, it's only just the one article. Surely at least the local news would have picked this up?
Also MToxins has a Facebook post from late August in which the sloth is stated to be leaving shortly as it was apparently only temporary. The sloth does not appear again in their postings; the eagle supposedly died 2-3 months later. There is no sloth currently at MToxins per a USDA report from this April. The eagle has been absent from their Facebook since mid-summer last year, posts showing a vet appointment and x-rays of her.

I visited today, and there have lots of changes since I last visited:

-Pygmy Rattlesnake, Mojave Rattlesnake, Panamint Rattlesnake, Gopher Tortoise, Jararaca Viper, Desert Lancehead Viper, Common Lancehead Viper, Gumprecht's Green Pit Viper, Sri Lankan Pit Viper, Eastern Green Mamba, Jameson's Green Mamba, Dajarra Death Adder, Alligator Snapping Turtle, King Cobra, Great Horned Owl, Six-banded Armadillo, and Dark Fishing Spider are all no longer exhibited.
