Plans and groundbreaking for new tiger exhibit are detailed here. So to open in about a year. Interesting that they are already stating what the makeup will be: two sumatran tigers and four rescue tigers. My best guess is the sumatran is to be in SSP compliance and the rescue is to be able to exhibit white tigers.

Hey guys its been awhile. Unfortunately Jacksonville will no longer have a Harpy Eagle in its collection. The male it had figured out how to tear apart the mesh separating his exhibit and the rest of the main aviary.

Interesting news: The zoo will be attempting to mix their two remaining male gorillas with the two females into one troop. If successful it will lead to the zoo combining the existing bonobo exhibit with the secondary gorilla exhibit into one large bonobo exhibit.

I am trying to get an accurate count of how many bonobos are in captivity in the United States. Does anyone know how many are at the Jacksonville Zoo? Name and ages would be helpful also.

Sad news, Salsa the zoo's melanistic jaguar died unexpectedly earlier this week. Considering Jacksonville's history with black jaguars it just doesn't feel right for the zoo not to have one in its collection

I found out that this particular harpy eagle was owned by San Diego as are almost all of them in the country. He was sent to Dallas World Aquarium per San Diego’s request.

There are two exhibits for Tigers and a "trail" system. All three connect to the holding areas. At least, that was in the design.
