Hi, i was just wondering if anybody had any solid information on edinburgh zoo's jaguar pair 'Mowgli' & 'Tina'. I am doing a essay on Edinburgh zoo after a visit in March for my college. The assignment is to choose a particular species of animal from the zoo and describe their feeding, breeding and enrichment lifestyle from what we have observed ourselves and what we have learned from the keepers. Unfortunatly we did not get time to visit the jaguars which made me more determined to do them  so any info on their age, place of birth/origins, past breeding (if there has been any) the assingment is due in on thursday so any info at all asap wud be a great help :)
thanks guys!

i know that Mowgli came from France in 2005 when he was about a year old. He came to originally breed with Handaya who came from Colchester Zoo... not sure if this is Tina or if this is a completely different jaguar all together.

I do remember that initially when he arrived the female he was paired with was much older than he was... she seemed to either disappear/die/be moved to another collection about 2007 adn then tina appeared.

If you need any pictures of them of Mowgli i have some on my flickr acount -

Hope this helps :)

handaya was the original female sadly she passed on and was replaced by Tina who i think the keepes believe to be 8 years old she was a rescue animal from a circus and when first came to the zoo was heavily over weight and had to have some of her claws and some of her teeth removed i assume due to the conditions that poor Tina must of been living in i am glad to say that Tina is looking better than ever and the carnivore team should be praised for the hard work and dedication they gave to her.

Thanks guys thats great info! Its great that Edinburgh zoo has done all of this for Tina, a lot of zoos wouldn't have taken an animal in poor condition & of unknown background. I saw a glimpse of Tina whilst i was at Edinburgh & i wud neva have assumed she had such a background, she luks like such a healthy beautiful & normal jaguar. Your right the keepers really should be praised!
Think im gonna get a Distinction on this assignment now, thanks again you 2 :)

Hope all goes well with yur assignment I am in the zoo most weekends and like to chat to the keepers and find out how the animals in there care are doing i agree tina is looking lovely if you want any other info id be happy to help or find out from a keeper.:)

Thanks mate! I think i've got the majority that i need... although there's usually something that im missing  but cheers
