Japanese killifish split into two species

Phew, just amazing that! Killifish in Japan seem to have more diversity and also more widespread in Eastern Asia ... than previously held ..

Actually the rice fishes, Oryzias species, are not now classified with the true killifishes but in the family Adrianichthyidae. There are several species found in Asia and as they are widely used for genetic research I would not be surprised if more species were split like this.

Thanks Alan, I was beginning to doubt my fish science on killifish.
Incidentally, Oryza is a Dutch trademark for a certain product..:D
