Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust Jersey Zoo

New avian arrivals from Zurich zoo include a Madagascan crested ibis (only one in the UK?), 6 Madagascan turtle doves and 10 Madagascan fodies as new inhabitants for a Madagascan themed aviary to be opened later this year.
Hopefully they will be joined at a later date by hammerkop and crested coua.

I expect some more crested ibis will arrive from Zoo Koeln and Vogelpark Walsrode in due course to set up a further potential breeding colony?

Koln have a different subspecies according to ISIS

0.2 red river hog set to arrive at the zoo from Whipsnade.

possibly these are the first ones bred at London which were sent to Whipsnade where they remained without a male for several years.

Good to see them utilised and presumably a male will be sourced too.

No mention here of them getting a male Red river Hog but presumably they will.

I wonder if this is a semi-temporary enclosure, as I thought the plan was they would be mixed with the Gorillas when the new Gorilla 'Bai' enclosure is built-or will they just be adjacent?

Jersey have never actually had Pygmy Hogs- the previous ones many years ago got no further than being quarantined in Zurich Zoo.

to my knowledge, jersey never had elephants. but their american sister concern apparently supported some asian elephant work in india.
