Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park Jimmy's Farm News 2021

Meanwhile I would argue that domestic animals are still animals -- oftentimes unique species and subspecies in their own right -- they're still animals housed at a public display facility, their births and acquisitions still worthy of celebrating and their deaths still worthy of mourning. If one doesn't enjoy the content regarding domestics, which I absolutely understand and sympathize with, one only needs to look away until the next wild species update comes along.

I wonder if there's an official Zoochat stance on this? I didn't see anywhere in the rules about not sharing domesticated content (at least for a zoo which also houses wild animals), but I may not be looking in the right place. As far as I understand any content discussing the existence and progress of a zoological facility is welcomed and encouraged, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong (I often am :D). It does make good sense to keep the content centered on wild species, no doubt.

All I know is that for this facility and many others, the domestics are just as much a part of the experience and "family" as the wild animals, and, for me at least, being unable to see updates on them would feel like a significant missing piece.

I get the feeling that this discussion might end up being removed to its own thread before long haha

That said, I understand that domesticated animals aren't everyone's cup of tea. Their breeding leans more/entirely towards historical preservation rather than conservational. I would argue that this history is extremely important to maintain and just as worthy of protecting as any other museum collection, but I wouldn't call it conservation, which is typically the primary aim of a zoological facility (and therefore the primary interest of members of this forum).
This.

Again further to my previous post this species doesn't need to be mentioned on here. However @GaryA your comments about "just being a breed of horse" is insensitive and disrespectful to those who are trying to preserve the species.
Imagine if I called a an animal that has been taxonomically split "just a lepard/oncilla/white rhino".

Now that would be spicy.

But surely it's not a "species"? It's a breed. A breed of horse.

(Don't get me wrong, I think Suffolk horses are wonderful, and I'd be really sad if they died out. But they are a breed, not a species.)

They hosted the Welly Walk today as a fundraising effort for the Children's Appeal? :D No recent animal news that I could see.

According to Facebook on the video of the lemurs as the ring tailed lemurs are not the only one who is coming to Jimmy's Farm and that's because the Black and White Ruffed Lemurs are coming aswell

Considering the collection is called "Jimmy's Farm", I think it's more than appropriate to post about the arrival of new domestic animals... I don't quite understand the beef, if you'll pardon the pun, against it!
I would suggest that in future people wait until the actual new species is announced instead of posting the 'teaser', then no members can complain?
Real news instead of social media speculation!

IMO, you should only post when you know the facts and can give accurate info, not when you just want to be 1st to share some publicity from facetwitter or whatever.

Speculation is boring, pointless, futile and almost always wrong.

TBH they (Jimmys farm) love to drop hints about this and that, its not posters fault that this place teases every little thing and hides behind you will have to watch the TV show because of spoilers (and then there is nothing on the TV show about it)

Also we are not there target audience.

Given we were advised filming was ongoing, is there a new TV series due shortly?

I think Jimmy D is an engaging host, although all the "my zoo" and "my this and that", as noted before does get a little tiring (although I understand this was forced by the production).

I fully agree with @pipaluk here.

@Smaggledagle please don't post speculation from social media puff pieces.

This thread is for news. If you've got actual news (regardless of whether it is about domestic or exotic animals) then please post it - but there is no space for speculation in a news thread.

Yes, but there is no need to post the hints here on ZooChat - because that only leads to speculation and this is a news thread.

If someone wants to start a "Jimmy's Farm Speculation" thread (probably in the Fantasy section), then go ahead - but this thread isn't the place for it.

Let's stick to actual news please.
