Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park Jimmy's Farm News

There appears to be a lake in that area from Google maps. I doubt it is primates

That’s some real detective work!!!

only 15 mins to go....dunno if they are going to mention them this week or whether it’s being saved for next week?

Is there a bit more of information on where some of these macaques came from? Run down zoo or the pet trade? I know they came from different locations. Apologies if it has been mentioned on the programme I missed a bit of the ending

So now that it's official, I can tell you a little bit more about it.

We've been talking about primates for a long time, but have always put it off saying that we didn't want to do it until we could do it right.....in that we didn't want to put them in cages and they'd need plenty of space. We have an area that's a big crater formed by a bomb from the war and trees have grown in it with a pond in the bottom, and we always wanted to put primates there.

We're working with a european rescue service to take in 2 groups of barbary macaques. Being endangered and also very hardy, they tick two of the main boxes (it gets a bit bleak in winter in that area). They offered us 2 groups. One EEP group of 2.5 (the "Wahid" group) which will live in the tree area, and a group of 1.2 (the "Adao" group) which are living in what we call the "meadow paddock". We have been advised that youngsters from the EEP group could probably be assimilated into Adao's group.

Adao's group are all a bit mentally and physically challenged, having all had really rough starts in life. Team Building With Bite have constructed a special climbing area in their paddock (which is truly massive for 3 monkeys!) which is specially designed to fit in with their slightly impaired mobility and lack of social skills.

I'm not going to tell you any more just yet cos I don't want to ruin next week's episode, but I hope that you've enjoyed this bit of a titbit that most others don't know yet as it's not officially opened to the public just yet.;)

I am enjoying this series as it is very informative and down to earth. The farm content is interesting and a reminder of the hassle and worry of tb testing, and the piece on the Suffolk Punch arrival and their background was
well told. The input on this thread by Chris also adds interest and backup.

Thanks very much:) I'm glad you enjoy the way we present it without holding anything back. Not being a horsey person myself, I even learned something new myself tonight!

I walked the punches the other day and although it was quite nerve-wracking, it went pretty well. They're in the carpark paddock this holiday, so they're one of the first things that people see and are proving very popular! My dogs love seeing them when I run them around there in the evenings, and the horses come over to say "Hi".

Another good episode tonight- show is extremely well put together, just a shame next week is the last in the current series! ( Fingers crossed for a winter edition).

Adding primates to the collection is wonderful news and will be yet another reason for myself to come back and visit the new arrivals!

Really looking forward to seeing how the wildlife park continues to develop over the short and long term- as I am led to believe there is still a lot of land that “Jimmy’s” own which is yet to be developed?

Cheers! Yeah it always seems like a short series of only 4 episodes, but being such a small team, it almost kills us to film it all in 5-6 weeks! More series only ever depends upon the viewing figures of the current ones, so we'll see.

The macaques aren't currently on show...we're hoping for a November opening. The weather is a constant challenge though.

The wildlife park (not including the new monkey extension or the woodlands) is about 13 acres I think. We have 240 in total, so plenty of space to expand into. Watch this space!;)

Been really enjoying the series as well - very honest and interesting. Also very happy at the news of the macaques arriving; their recent arrival at Colchester Zoo has given me a real appreciation for the species.

I was just looking on Google for information about the macaques and found that their arrival had already been mentioned in the Sunday Mirror on October 11th, before the current TV series had even started. Guess it shows that zoo news can slip by if you don't know what you're looking for.

hahahaha....yeah I knew about that but was keeping hush, I was wondering why that hadn't been picked up on by zoochatters yet!:D Jim just can't seem to keep a secret when it comes to doing press I suppose, bless him!

That is a huge amount of land available you have at your disposal so am sure you all have some amazing ideas up your sleeves. When I visited the Photographer studio you have In one of the buildings a couple of weeks ago was surprised at how different things look in the space of a year since my last proper visit!

Yeah we don't like to stand still for too long and we have some amazing plans! Money is a BIG limiter though, especially this year...and also time to get the work done (seeing as we do it all ourselves). For the macaques, we have a couple of great sponsors in Safe4 disinfectant and Ryobi tools. The materials for the anteater build were largely provided by Clarkes of Walsham, which also has a shop on site. So we've been really lucky to work with great companies on these.

Quite understandable given the times we currently find ourselves living in. But I’m sure there must be numerous local companies who would want to sponsor and assist where they can especially with Jimmys fame from his various tv shows he presents or appears on.

Not quite. People tend to wrongly assume that because there's telly involved that we're rolling in it. Absolutely not true at all I'm afraid....it just doesn't work like that. We wish it did! Our kind sponsors are just friends who are genuinely sold on doing some good conservation work for certain species in the park with no promise of exposure at all. They're amazing.

Just out of interest, apart from the rescue macques how many other animals on the park are rescues? Nice to see 1:2 of them are rescued and have a fantastic new enclosure. From what I've seen on TV the park's future looks very bright indeed.

Both groups of macaques are rescues, just that the larger group were rescued younger and have been formed into a stable breeding group. The smaller group just have fewer social skills and more physical and mental issues.

Other rescued animals at Jimmy’s are the raccoons, the matriarch of the coatis, the original pair of meerkats, most of the reptiles, the skunks, some chickens, the roe deer fawn and I’m sure there are a few more things I can’t think of right now.

I get unwanted pets offered almost everyday, but I’ve pretty much stopped accepting stuff now.

Yeah hopefully we can get rubbish 2020 out of the way, do another series of “Spring” and then we’ll be flying!
