This weekend, a brand-new aquarium opened in El Paso, Texas. Jungle Reef Touch Aquarium has opened inside The Shoppes at Solana (formerly Sunland Park Mall), where there used to be an Old Navy clothing store. An adult ticket is $15, an annual pass only $40, there is the promotion of feeding tokens, and the animal highlights would be Blacktip Reef Sharks and Small-clawed Otters. The aquarium is 26,000 square feet in size, which is similar to many Sea Life facilities.

Aquarium's website:

This link has 5 photos of the facility while under construction:

Their "About Us" page is a massive yikes

Edit: I caved and watched one video, the one about otters, and I would like to magnify the yikes x100

It does look a bit dodgy. This new aquarium is only a 15-minute drive from El Paso Zoo and the metropolitan population of the city is rapidly closing in on a million people. It seems that El Paso is an urban area that is perfect for a new aquarium, but I'm not sure that 'Jungle Reef' is the answer.

I agree that El Paso could use something, there's not much near there. They deserve something of quality, by people who know what they're doing (as does everywhere, of course).

First there was SeaQuest. Then there was Blue Zoo. And now Jungle Reef. Even the websites have that same generic "aquarium" look, probably run by the same infamous pair.

The number of McCrapAquarium franchises that keep on popping up in the US makes me sick. Wouldn't be surprised if we see another 8 of these pop up by 2025. Something tells me the "Hepworth Brothers" are actually just the Covino bros under a legal disguise. They'll do anything to continue abusing animals in their pyramid schemes.

That's exactly why I went looking into who was behind this place! I wouldn't be surprised if they're helping them, either, given the Hepworth Brothers have no background whatsoever in aquarium stuff. A background in construction doesn't mean anything if you don't know what each species requires.
