Jurong Bird Park Jurong Bird Park News

wow! That is incredible news. I wasn't entirely confident Spix' Macaws were actually arriving, but the extra additon of Lear's Macaws makes it doubly-amazing.

Some updates from the birdpark.

World of Darkness has closed for good. All the owls are off show except those in the shows.

Parrot Paradise has reopened with the blue macaws taking centrestage. There are a lot less species on display now, partly due to the removal of 2 avairies to make way for the Spix's macaws back of house facility. Could also be because it just reopened and more birds are to be added. Photos will be posted in the gallery.

Some new species added: Gentoo penguin - off show (intended for the new bird park in Mandai) but several chicks are at the Breeding and Research Centre, elegant crested tinamou and blue winged kookaburra at Heliconia Walk, long-tailed hornbill at the Hornbills exhibit, Buffon's, yellow-collared and chestnut-fronted macaws at Parrot Paradise.

Do you know if they are going to be permanently off-show until the move, because that's still a while away? Seems like they would be an expensive bird to only have as an off-show holding until then.

And do you know if there are any Little Blue Penguins left, or have they all died?

There doesn't seem to be any immediate plans to display the gentoos. Perhaps if they breed enough some might go on display. The exhibit is actually a little warm for subantarctic penguins. I think all the little blues have died; I don't think any new birds had been acquired over the years.
