Old news from 2018:
Exchange of animals between Ragunan Zoo and Jurug Zoo.
Animals on display at Ragunan during holidays in peak condition

Kangaroos from Taru Jurug in Surakarta to Ragunan in exchange for deer and pelicans.
I wonder if those kangaroos would be wallabies or dorcopsis from Irian Jaya.

At the time the zoo suffered from disvestiment - with being Province owned - and exhibits under par and an animal collection with a good number of singletons without mates. Javan leopard, Tonkean macaque, black langur, Javan langur and more.

I am not sure if that situation has now changed for the better?

It is, Indonesian medias (And often even zoos themselves) sometimes falsely labelled wallabies/pademelons as kangaroos. The "kangaroos" in Solo are agile wallabies (Although the Indonesian name for that species is "kangguru tanah", so I can't blame them).

I found a scientific publication on wildlife in zoos (Surakarta and Yogyakarta) where agile wallaby was mentioned. Dorcopsis however remain a good possibility ...

Fase pertama menyasar pintu masuk Solo Zoo hingga sekitaran danau. Jurug Solo Zoo has laid laid the first groundwork for revitalization of the zoo, which would officially begin on September 1.

I really hope that this would greatly improved the zoo, especially regarding animal welfare (I.e animal exhibits, etc.), conservation effort, and other facilities. I know that the revitalization of Bandung Zoo is far from perfect, but I trust Taman Safari that they will atleast make Jurug Solo Zoo a little bit better.

Hans Manansang needs to inject some of those good budget into Ragunan's veins. That place is hella outdated and dirty, and not to mention mosquito-infested!

The maintenance of Ragunan is the responsibility of the government of Jakarta.

Recent upgrades (I think it was for the 2018 Asian games) wasn't even minimal. It is a modern version of a early 19th century zoo. The great ape exhibits at Schmutzer thought, they're the best part of Ragunan and one of the best zoo exhibits in Indonesia, but that's it. The rest of Schmutzer aren't that great exhibit-wise.

I believe the Jakartan local government have the ability and resources to do a refurbishment and reform of Ragunan with the right peoples and knowledge. But one of the major problem I believe would be.... Politic. ZooChat isn't a place for politics so I don't want to dive deeper, but I know you understand what I'm talking about.

Jurug Solo Zoo has discussed plans for cooperation with Burden Ltd, a Japanese animal exporting company. Burden Ltd is ready to assist "conservation needs" during the revitalization.

We might see animal transports from Burden Ltd to Solo as part of the revitalization in the near future. Although I hope they already refurbished the majority of their exhibits and off-display enclosures if they rushed to get new animals for phase one.

3D models of the designs of several Phase 1 projects and a map.

Some projects are clearly influenced by Taman Safari Indonesia, especially Lion Cafe and Animal Show. It seems like the revitalization will include new species, listed in the map include Komodo dragon and meerkat. We might see other new species for the African Savannah, which could be a African savanna herbivore exhibit similar to Bandung Zoo's. These animals could possibly came from Taman Safari Indonesia.

The zoo is set to open on January 27 2023, though it's not unreasonable to expect another delay or two.

The name of the zoo is set to be changed to "Solo Safari".

Animals from Taman Safari Bogor and Jawa Timur all have arrived by 20 January and are given a week's time to acclimate to Solo's warmer weather.

Aside from Tigers, Binturong and Wallabies, Zebras are confirmed to be one of the animals, along with 8 Sulcata tortoises surrendered by the town's mayor.

- A predator-only area is also in the works, though the zookeepers are unaware of what animals will be brought from Prigen and Bogor Safari. It seems they are only given a short time to study up on the different animals showcased before their debut.

- While some of the animals like the Nilgai, and Blackbuck are from before the revitalization, others are transfers from Prigen and Bogor Safari, including species which have previously been showcased such as the Asian elephants, and the Australian Pelicans.

I hope Solo Safari has rhinos in the future, and hoping for striped hyenas and servals (i want the one in Jakarta Aquarium moved here and swapped with a caiman or capybaras) in the predator area

I would also love for that encloaure to have a new aquatic inhabitant. Heck, I'd say return the Water Monitor. If that happens to be the case, the serval will probably fit right in to the future predator area. Though I suspect they'll need to add something else to separate them from Gembira Loka's predator area which has Tigers (which we know are also coming to Solo Safari), Fishing Cat, Small Clawed Otters and serval. Perhaps clouded leopards, or maybe the Caracal from Prigen.
