On May 22nd, the zoo announced that (2.0.1) scimitar-horned oryxes named Goose, Kevin, and Sedona were born.

On May 23rd, the zoo announced its name, Nanas.

A female Masai giraffe has arrived!

1-year old “Alika” has been transferred to Kansas City from the Franklin Park Zoo. She joins the zoo’s 1.3 other Masai giraffes and has a breeding recommendation with the male, “Aidan”.

 

On June 16th, the zoo announced that they acquired a (0.1) bat-eared fox named Jane from The Living Desert in California, and is now on exhibit.

On June 22nd, the zoo announced that they bred 6,521 Wyoming toad tadpoles, of which all but 30 were released into the wild.

On June 29th, the zoo announced that (0.0.2) more scimitar-horned oryxes named Athena and Godric were born in May which are now on exhibit.

On June 30th, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (0.1) Matchie's tree kangaroo named Popondetta to Zoo Miami in Florida.

On July 5th, the zoo announced that a (0.1) common chimpanzee named Dafina passed away at age 24 due to a decline in health caused by secondary renal failure and an inoperable reproductive tract tumor.

Kansas City Zoo is now the Kansas City Zoo and Aquarium along with a brand new logo

Kansas City Zoo announces name change, embracing future aquarium

Personally, I disliked the old logo so this is a nice refresh, even if it is simple. The Aquarium is due to open Labor Day weekend.

I like the new logo and the zoo is showing its commitment to elephants by including an icon of of one as part of the 5 species here:
