Intan, a 24 year old female orang, died at the zoo today. She recently arrived from LA and was just beginning introductions to male Rufus. Intial indications are that she died from cardiovascular collapse not necessarily as a result of introductions.

I was wondering if anyone could provide some information on how many and possibly the names of the african lions the zoo has?

The maned male is named Dumisani and the female he is frequently with is named Jean. Other are Donna, Nala, Simba, and Mustafa. Simba and Mustafa are males but since they had castrations before the mane growth, they have no manes. Dudes look like a lady! or they are visitors from Tsavo. I joke!

A humboldt pengiun chick hatched for the first time at the zoo. The chick is doing well under its parents care and a second chick belonging to another pair is expected to hatch within a week.

A female Lesser Kudu named Parker was born in early May, 4 White-Necked Ravens were added to the vulture aviary, and a Masai Giraffe named George born on March 15th made his public debut recently.

Wow, I didn't know anything was wrong with him. Last time I was there, on the 16th, he and the females were off exhibit for rotation. This makes me really sad because he was there most of the times I visited. When they put the air conditioned viewing room there, you could get some great pictures of him against the glass.

Aren't all of the lions at the KC zoo altered males? Neutered very young and never grew manes.
