I know the Zoo is currently working on a new orangutan exhibit but besides that is anyone aware of any other upcoming or ongoing projects?

And for the elephants is anyone aware of any exhibit changes or acquisitions that may be in progress? I heard rumors a while back that Tonka from Knoxville Zoo may be headed to the KC zoo.

And also does anyone have any old pictures of the zoo's old bull?

Thanks!

Neutered/maneless male lions

Castrated lions will not develop a mane. Even if the castration occurs after the cat matures, the mane will eventually fall out and not regrow. They need that testosterone.

That is not always the case. Toronto Zoo has 2 males who where castrated young. While Jerrho never grew a mane, brother Lindy did. Its small like on a young maturing male but he definitely has a mane. Take a look in Toronto's gallery. There are a number of shots of the brothers.
