A zookeeper has been attacked by a lion at Shoalhaven Zoo on the New South Wales South Coast.

Paramedics were called to the zoo in north Nowra just after 10:30am and found the woman, believed to be aged in her 30s, with serious head and neck injuries.

She is being stabilised by ambulance officers at the scene, who are being support by a specialist medical team.
The woman will be flown to Sydney via rescue helicopter.
Police have also been called to the scene.
Shoalhaven Zoo is not commenting at this time.
