Hello,
I've wondered if anyone on this forum is familiar with the Kerala elephants of India. They are those elephants that get dressed up and perform in festivals known as poorams. Biggest one is Thrissur Pooram aka Trissur and Trichur. where twes of Paramekavu and Thiruvambadi, 15 elephants are on each side this pooram draws hundreds of Thousands of spectators.

A site on these elephant is:
[Home] - Elephant Spotlight, Where Elephants Rule

Some of these elephants are very famous around the world such as god's own elephant, Guruvayoor Padmanabhan

My favs are the young stars:
Pampbadi Rajan and Thiruvambadi Sivasundar.
And of couse the next elephant king (Gajarajan) Thechikottukavu Ramachandran

love to share on this topic if anyone is interested about this?

Is it just me or do the elephants in those pictures look bigger then usual.

Yes some of the elephants are very large compared to other bulls but the mainfactor is the height of Indian people. And that when you see them in a Pooram (procession) they are just standing next to other bulls.
Usually the one with the Thidambu( big tall thing on elephant shoulder/ forehead is the biggest. But other factors can come into play, such as: eighteen nails, Wide trunk, long trunk, big forehead and skin colour.
Thanks for joining

hmmmmmm, apparently the main sides of Thrissur Pooram Thriumbadi and Parmekkavu are highly competative with each other, perhaps its time for me to chose a side, does anyone here have any opinions on which side is better?

hi....it was nice u knw abt the elephants in kerela! yes..it's right...we consider them as god's elephant...do u think..these ideologies (religious)..wud help us in better way to promote conservation in india..waiting for ur opinion!

Hey, yes I'm sure it would, many people who support elephant shrines are tourists who visit them, experince with elephants hands on has given them insight to donate to this wonderful creature,

Thiruvambadi is krishna I believe and Paramekkavu is Devi,
So competativeness is worshipped highly, religon I think would play some kind of role in Conservation,

Tell me what is your favourite elephant?

Like everyone I'm a fan of the legendary Gajarajan Kesavan,

The two godly shrine holders Paramekkavu Sree Padmanabhan and Thiruvambadi Sivasundar and the former ones, Thiruvambadi Chandrashekaran (Late) and Paramekkavu Sree Parameshwaran (Late)

Do you have a favourite shrine? I'm a fan of the groups I mentioned before and the Nanuezhuthachan group

Wow, Kunnathurmedu Sreekrishna Jayanthi just happened 3 days ago, it was a interesting and grand event from what I heard. Nanuezhuthachan Sreenivasan was the main elephant,
