For quite a while now, my friends and I have been observing two Eurasian kestrel nests on a bridge in Futako Tamagawa. Yesterday, one of my friends called me informing me that a chick from one of the nests had fallen, and was now sitting in the grass. While the chick has not fledged yet, it is obviously too large for the mom
to carry. Adding on, the father has not been observed for about a week, and his whereabouts are unknown. The mom has been observed multiple times feeding the chick on the ground. My friend went to go check on the chick in the morning and it was still well and alive, but I am unsure if that will be the case in the future, since there are many people walking their dogs around this area as well as stray cats and the occasional raccoon dog and weasel. I am very concerned for the safety of this chick, and for the future of this breeding site if the mother chooses to abandon him/her. My friend has already called the Japan Wild bird society, Setagayaku, and another wildlife rescue organization to which all of them refused to take any action. For the safety of this chick and the future of this breeding site, I would very much appreciate anyone who knows an organization in the Tokyo area that may take in this chick.
