Hello everyone,
I'm an American who moved to New Zealand quite a while ago. I worked at the Pittsburgh zoo in the early 2000s as a gardner and have spent a lot of time volunteering for wildlife rescue efforts. Currently a fosterer for small animals. Loved my time at the zoo; got to interact with animals when redoing their areas and got to see behind the scenes areas as well as disused areas from when I was a kid.
I try to hit any and all zoos or wildparks when I'm in a new area. When visiting home last year, my mother excitedly took me to the local zoo and I of course was still a child about it. Sitting with the anteaters and freaking out for well over an hour.
I'm kind of over not having mammals here in NZ; birds are great, but missing the daily interactions with loads of other branches on the east coast. I'm really big into insects and crocs. Hoping to make it back to Australia at some point and see a platypus.
Thanks for having me!
