Kilamanjaro Safari Stocklist

I personally rate the Kilamanjaro Safari as one of the best Exhibits I have ever seen. The way that all equiment is hidden is brillant and although Zooagraphically it has to be taken with a pinch of salt it still is a master class. Although the price, the swiftness you fly around the reserve and the storyboard ending all go against it! However her is the challenge! I'm still trying to get use to I.S.I.S and I know this challenge is probably more difficult as all the animals are registered under one name and some are at the lodge others are in the reserve ect. But what is the current stocklist to the best of your guys ability of the Kilamanjaro Safari or Harambe reserve whichever you would prefer?

Forest

Savannah East

Savannah West

From what I can remember from my '08 visit! The forest has Okapi, Stanley Crane, Blue Duiker?, Black Rhino, Bongo (eastern?), Kudu (Lesser?)and Saddlebill stork!

The two savannahs have various antelope, Giraffee and White rhino and then Sateliite exhibits fir Lion, Cheetah, Elephant, Mandrill and Warthog.

The forest is connected to the first savannah by going past pools for Hippo (I heard they maintain a large group that they alternate between kilamanjaro and the Pangai trail?, upto 15+?) and Nile Crocodile (all males?)

This exhibit fasinates me do any help would be greatly appreciated!

Good Luck!

(thanks for reading my first post ;) )

Welcome!

My last visit was January 2010 and these are the animals I saw in each enclosure:

Queue area: small fenced yard seen while in line, with West African crowned crane and sacred ibis.

Little Ituri Forest: drive through enclosure with greater kudu, bongo, saddle-billed stork, and yellow-billed stork.

Okapi: enclosure adjacent to Little Ituri Forest, separated from it by water moat.

Black Rhinoceros: enclosure adjacent to Little Ituri Forest, separated from it by water moat.

Hippopotamus #1: on the right side of the road, this enclosure only had 1 or 2 hippos and is the one that shares a backstage barn with the separate hippo exhibit seen on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail (which had 2 hippos in it and is not designed to hold more).

Hippopotamus #2: on the left side of the road and across from the first hippo exhibit, so that they appear as one habitat. This is the one with the herd of hippos, I spotted 6.

Nile Crocodile: enclosure reportedly has 27 males, and I believe it!

Savanna West: announced as the Serengeti Savanna, the largest enclosure is a drive-through and has reticulated giraffe, ankole cattle, Patterson's eland, common waterbuck, blue wildebeest, sable antelope, impala, and Thompson's gazelle.

Mandrill: adjacent to Savanna West.

African Elephant: adjacent to Savanna West. The first area of the enclosure viewed can be separated from the main area viewed second, and a third separate enclosure in the background behind the second may or may not be visible from the vehicle, I'm not sure.

Background Savanna: viewed across a ravine between the first and second elephant areas, near the shaking bridge element. This may be several large long enclosures that are essentially backstage holding areas. The only species I spotted was an unidentified species of zebra.

Greater Flamingo: a pond and island enclosure adjacent to the second elephant viewing area and Savanna West.

Savanna East: a drive-through enclosure for white rhinoceros, bontebok, and ostrich.

Cheetah: this enclosure may actually be two, I'm not sure; adjacent to Savanna East.

African Lion: enclosure adjacent to Savanna East.

Warthog: enclosure adjacent to Savanna East.

A few miles away, the Animal Kingdom Lodge has 4 savannas, and these are the species within when I was there, based on observation and questioning the interpretive staff stationed there:

Arusha Savanna: bongo, bontebok, greater kudu, roan antelope, reticulated giraffe, Grant’s zebra, ankole cattle, red river hog, East African crowned crane, pink back pelican, and vulturine and helmeted guineafowls.

Uzima Savanna: common eland, nyala, sable antelope, Thomson’s gazelle, reticulated giraffe, African spoonbill, East African crowned crane, Egyptian goose, greater flamingo, ostrich, Ruppell’s griffon vulture, and shelduck (I am not sure which species).

Sunset Savanna: blue wildebeest, common eland, roan antelope, reticulated giraffe, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, ankole cattle, East African crowned crane, marabou stork, and ostrich.

Pembe Savanna: ellipsen waterbuck, impala, nyala, yellow-backed duiker, okapi, red river hog, Abyssinian ground hornbill, blue crane, and spur-winged goose.

Disney Animal Kingdom (of which I am NOT a fan) would be ten times better if they made one minor and relatively easy change. Just make an overlook with benches where people can actually see the savannah when they're not on the ride. Keep the ride, because it is good, but let people see the animals on their own too. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why they didn't do this. This is one of the main reasons I think Busch Gardens is better than DAK.

Agreed the new walking Safari isn't the answer either. I think in the disney universe they can create a boardwalk and spare some benches!

Cheers mate! Any ideas of stocking levels?

I don't know how often I.S.I.S is updated but I thought I would make a start on the stocklist!

If anyone could possilby tell me a.) of any mistakes and b.) How many of each species is usually displayed in the park and at the lodge as a lot of them are double represented!

Also, Geomorph are there no Zebras on show during the Kilamanjaro safari? My last vist was 2 years ago, but from my hazy memory I thought the rhino's were seperate the savannah west? If so does that mean that there are only two species in that savannah ?

Sorry for all the questions?
If you guys found this helpful then I will also do the lodge holding in a similar style, by splitting in to the four seperate savannahs?

Just checked my photos from that visit and saw some Oryx? After an I.S.I.S check I'm pretty sure that:

Savannah West

Schmitar Oryx - 2.5.0

Can be added!

:)

Nice summary Geomorph, here's a few notes I'd like to add. I haven't yet figured out if the okapi yard seen from Pangani is the same as the one seen from Kilimanjaro, but if they are seperate they are RIGHT next to each other. The area with the hippos and crocs is called "Safi River", the third hippo enclosure in Pangani Forest is connected to the other two exhibits via the barn. Also present in the hippo enclosure are white-breasted cormorant and pink-backed pelicans. The Background Savannah (aka Savannah North) is indeed random animal holding, it is kind of fun to see a random animal off in the distance, it really adds to the overall illusion. The Cheetah Exhibit was built originally as one enclosure but has been divided in two some years back. Savannah East used to also have Grant's Zebra and Scimitar-Horned Oryx, is this no longer the case? It is also possible that they were off exhibit, they occasionally keep entire species off exhibit if someone has a baby.

Very impressive list, especially the hippos! Too bad you can't spend longer looking at them - it's not every day that you get to see an actual herd.

-There are two separate okapi enclosures at the park
-There are two separate hippo barns. The "Safi River" is connected to one barn (the girls) and the other two hippo pens are connected to the second barn (the boys).
-There are three separate black rhino pens (two are on show)
-There is a new herd of Addax on Savanna East
-And the Savanna West will soon have two new hoofstock (sub)species

Right what I meant was the hippo enclosure on the right as you drive through the river is connected to the Pangani via a shared barn.
