Killer Whales coming to spain

It has been long anticipated for killer whales to be coming to spain, when will they come and where will they be?

Do you mean mainland spain or the canary islands?

Loro Parque in Tenerife (Canaries) has already 4 killer whales (from 2,2 from Seaworld San Antonio and Seaworld Orlando). They arrived about 2 or 3 years ago.

Zoo Barcelona has exhibited a male killer whale (Ulysses?) a couple of time (I guess within the 80ies) in the dolphin theatre. The animal was sent later to a Seaworld Park.

When Valencia's L'Oceanografico was being build they where talking about getting killerwhales, but that plan was abandoned (at least put on long term hold).

Besides the animals at Loro Parque, there are no more rumours of new killer whales in Spain afaik...

The Oceanografic pools were modified for (at least in theory) accommodate 2 orcas, but I don't have any news for long time ago.

Presumably the orcas come to MARINELAND Antibes (French park) In the same enterprises holding (Parques Reunidos) as Oceanografic...

Ulisses was at Barcelona between 1983 and 1994, then was sent to Sea World San Diego because he was too big to be at the Aquarama tank (shared with a dolphin).

im not posotive on anything, just its been noted loads of time the orcas are coming to spain

The Palmitos Park on Gran Canaria will get Bottlenose dolphins now in 2009 (could be there already); a small chance that any marine park in the Iberian Peninsula will get any Killer whales in the forseeable future.

Yes Ulises was at Riolen Safari and Zoo Barcelona
Ocean Depths: Ulises

Loro Parque has, as mentioned 4 from Sea World.. Two males and Two Females, Keto, Tekoa, Kohana and Skyla.

L'Oceanografic was going to get the two males from Marineland France but a female orca died at Marineland in January this year (January 8th 2009) and the park was hoping for two new calves to replace the two males; Inouk and Valentin

I haven't heard any more rumours about any other moves.

Loro parque now has 5 Orcas, the four on loan from Seaworld and a new calf born to Kohana, the older to the two females, The calf is being reared by trainers as Kohana is too young and has not taken to her calf however she has recently started to show interest and may take her calf back. At least we hope she will.

The calf at loro parque is being hadfed, but doing well as I have heard.

I am really opposed to oceanogarique keeping killer whales at any time in the future, until they finally deside to build a decent sealion pool. With all the available space being wasted on water foil, and then coming with a sealion enclosure like this....
