So, I know the only collections in the UK to keep these (to my knowledge) are Edinburgh Zoo & Birdland, but when did Whipsnade & Cotswold stop keeping them and why? And on another note, has any other collection kept kings in recent years?

Cannot give you the dates of when they left but can tell you where they went the ones from Whipsnade went to Rotterdam, the pair that was at Cotswold returned to Birdland who had placed them there on loan,in the early 90`s Hillside Bird Oasis had King Penguins but don`t know when they left.

Chessington had one surviving bird until the early 90s. Belfast had kings that they hatched from eggs collected from the falklands again at the start of the 90s but the last ones left a few years ago. Bristol also had a couple of kings until maybe 93 or even earlier.

The two male Kings at Bristol both died within a couple of days of a bacterial infection believed to have been passed on in their fish. I can't remember the exact year off-hand but it was around 2001/2.

Penscynor received a pair of king penguins in 1974 . As stated before , I do not think they lasted long , I do remember seeing them there .
