Below is a quote from the colchester website:
Kito, the first elephant to be born at Colchester Zoo, is soon to depart to Dvur Zoo in the Czech Republic as part of a breeding programme. Kito, was born in December 2002 at Colchester and became famous for being the first elephant to be born after one artificial insemination. His father, Tembo and mother, Tanya remain at Colchester Zoo, as the herd awaits the arrival of another baby to mum Opal in April, 2010.
Dvur; Zoo has a new African Elephant facility built just four years ago which provides outside and inside accommodation for one bull and four cows as well as any future calves. The bull and female houses are at opposite ends of the complex with the outside enclosures interlinked and is a well thought out, modern design.
Kito will leave Colchester in early June arrive in Dvur Kralove a day later. He will be introduced to his new female companions as soon as he is ready. Claire Bennett and Mick Harrison, Colchester Zoo’s elephant keepers will be flying out to the Czech Republic to ensure that Kito settles in well and they will be the first faces he sees as the unloading begins.
I certainly will be sad to see him go, but also glad as i know he will go to a good home and hopefully breed in the future!
